Award for ecological sustainability –
confirmation of the brand core
The Düsseldorfer Druckstudio Group is one of only a handful of printers in Germany to have been awarded the Green Brand seal of approval. The award confirms the company’s market position as one of the most environmentally friendly printers in the German-speaking world and serves as a signpost to ecologically sustainable print products for consumers and companies throughout the EU. It honours brands that demonstrably show a special concern for the protection of the environment, the climate, nature as well as biodiversity and resources and deal with them responsibly.
In addition to the Green Brands award, numerous other certifications guarantee the Druckstudio Group’s customers the greatest possible transparency and credibility in terms of sustainability. For example, the company prints in accordance with the strict criteria of the Blue Angel (DE-UZ 195), currently by far the most credible environmental label in the print sector. Furthermore, the company is certified according to the world’s highest environmental standard EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme).
Intensive certification process
The certifications prove that the Druckstudio Group not only meets its obligations in terms of environmental protection and sustainability, but even voluntarily goes far beyond legal requirements. “Continuous improvement and sustainability shape all our strategic decisions,” explains Managing Director Werner Drechsler. “Against this background, we have very consciously subjected ourselves to this intensive and demanding certification programme.” For customers and their buyers, the seal of approval offers additional orientation when it comes to choosing a supplier for sustainably produced print products – throughout the EU.
The Green Brands certification programme comprises several stages. At the end, a jury decides whether the seal is awarded. The jury includes experts from research, business and non-profit organisations, such as the German Institute for Economic Research, the Federal German Working Group for Environmentally Conscious Management or the Club of Rome. In the meantime, numerous well-known companies and brands (products) in a wide range of sectors have been awarded the Green Brands seal throughout Europe. The seal of quality is valid for two years, after which recertification is necessary.
Making the entire value chain more sustainable
The Druckstudio Group had already established an internal Green Team in 2008. Its task: to make the entire value chain more environmentally friendly according to the highest standards. “We have been focusing on green printing for many years. The topic of sustainability has been running through our entire value chain for a long time. We were able to score points with this certification. The award proves that our team’s work is paying off,” says Drechsler. Among other things, the Druckstudio Group relies on green electricity, the use of waste process heat through a heat recovery system on the printing presses, the generation of renewable energy through a photovoltaic system on the roofs of the company buildings, 100 per cent IPA-free printing (alcohol-free printing) and organic inks based on vegetable oil.
