The Düsseldorf-based Druckstudio Group has updated its prepress and press operations with new equipment from Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG. The print shop invested in the world’s first Speedmaster XL 106 five-colour press with inline coating unit and Inpress Control even before drupa. In May, it added the world’s first SX 52 five-colour UV press with inline coating unit and a new Suprasetter 105. The total invested for the two presses and platesetter is around 3.4 million euros. With these investments, Druckstudio is increasing its productivity by up to 30 percent and thus further improving the profitability of print jobs significantly.

The Druckstudio Group’s corporate strategy is geared to ensuring the print shop is always at the cutting edge. “Even before drupa, we decided to invest in new equipment,” says Werner Drechsler, Managing Director of the Druckstudio Group. “With the new Speedmaster XL 106, we’re making the next logical investment in a higher performance class in line with our innovation-driven corporate strategy. This enables us to increase productivity by around 20 to 30 percent,” says Drechsler. Druckstudio took the world’s first Speedmaster XL 106 five-colour press with coating unit into operation back in March and thus two months before the official unveiling at drupa. The new addition replaces a Speedmaster XL 105. The Prinect Inpress Control inline measuring and control system enables a reduction in paper waste of around 100 sheets per job change. The Speedmaster XL 106 benefits from carbon offsetting and supports alcohol-reduced production in line with Druckstudio’s corporate concept focused fully on sustainability. In May 2012, a new SX 52 five-colour press with UV technology also replaced an SM 52 five-colour model. The press from the new series offers maximum automation and flexibility and also benefits from carbon offsetting. “The environmental features were also key factors in purchasing the press,” explains Drechsler. The SX 52 and XL 106 are among the most eco-friendly in their class thanks to their high energy efficiency. An integrated measuring device measures and displays the current energy efficiency per 1,000 sheets on the two presses. The Suprasetter 105 is a further new addition. “With the Speedmaster XL 106, we process significantly more jobs in the same time thanks to the shorter makeready times. “That’s why we’ve also invested in a further Suprasetter that, with two laser modules, achieves more than double the speed,” says Drechsler.
